As a member of the Federal Bar Council, you will receive the following benefits:
  • Essential professional development opportunities. Network with colleagues, judges, and lawyers through participation in our many Committees. Our committees are actively working on substantive legal projects, planning CLE programs, and sponsoring special events. Prominent judges and form public officials often speak at committee meetings.
  • Unlimited, Free access to high quality Continuing Legal Education programs featuring notable practitioners and federal judges. The Federal Bar Council is an accredited provider of Continuing Legal Education in New York.
  • The Second Circuit Redbook containing judicial biographies, court contact information and a membership directory. (Sustaining members are identified in boldface in the membership directory.)
  • The FBC Inn of Court provides unmatched access to practitioners and federal judges serving in the Second Circuit, SDNY, EDNY, & D.CT.  Members get networking and mentoring opportunities and earn CLE credits.
  • The Courthouses of the Second Circuit, a beautiful book, illustrating 19 courthouses in use today in the Second Circuit, their history and architecture and some of the landmark cases heard in their courtrooms.
  • The Federal Bar Council Quarterly contains useful information on newly appointed judges and practice and procedure developments, as well as news and commentary.
  • Access to other Federal Bar Council events. Members receive invitations to the Judges Reception, the Thanksgiving Luncheon, and the Law Day Dinner. Members are also invited to the annual Winter Bench & Bar Conference and Fall Bench & Bar Retreat.
Membership Types:
  • Sustaining Member ($475) Take advantage of all the benefits above and identification as a Sustaining Member in the membership listing section of the Second Circuit Redbook.
  • Regular Member ($300) Provides all privileges of membership, above.
  • Regular Member – First Five Years ($125) Members who have been a member of the Bar for five years or less; provides all privileges of membership, above.
  • Associate Member ($125) Members who reside and practice outside the Second Circuit (i.e., outside New York, Connecticut or Vermont); provides all privileges of membership, above. 
  • Not-for-Profit Member ($100) Members who are engaged substantially full-time in teaching law at an accredited law school, or who practice in the Federal Courts as a government employee or who practice law for a not-for-profit entity; provides all privileges of membership, above. 
  • Retiree Member ($75) Members who no longer practice law; provides all privileges of membership, above. 
  • Federal Judicial Law Clerk (No charge) Membership, with all its privileges, is free during the clerkship term (for a maximum of two years).
