As a member of the Federal Bar Council, you will receive the following benefits:
- The Second Circuit Redbook containing judicial biographies, court contact information and a membership directory. (Sustaining members are identified in boldface in the membership directory.) The Second Circuit Redbook is published every fall.
- The Federal Bar Council Quarterly contains useful information on newly appointed judges and practice and procedure developments, as well as news and commentary.
- Free access to Continuing Legal Education programs. These programs are usually conducted at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse, 500 Pearl Street. The Federal Bar Council is an accredited provider of Continuing Legal Education in New York.

Access to other Federal Bar Council events. Members receive invitations to the Judges Reception, the Thanksgiving Luncheon and the Law Day Dinner. Members also receive information on the annual Winter Bench & Bar Conference and Fall Bench & Bar Retreat.
- From time to time, the Federal Bar Foundation publishes works of historical importance such as “The
Remarkable Hands: An Affectionate Portrait” and “Glimpses of Walter Mansfield and Edward Weinfeld: A Judicious Life.” These works have been distributed without charge to our members.
Membership Types
- Sustaining Member ($475) Take advantage of all the benefits above plus receive a complimentary copy of the publication, “The Remarkable Hands, An Affectionate Portrait,” identification as a Sustaining Member in the membership listing section of the Second Circuit Redbook and a Federal Bar Council necktie (for men) or scarf (for women).
- Regular Member ($275) Provides all privileges of membership, above.
- Regular Member – First Five Years ($100) Members who have been a member of the Bar for five years or less; provides all privileges of membership, above.
- Associate Member ($100) Members who practice outside the Second Circuit (i.e., outside New York, Connecticut or Vermont); provides all privileges of membership, above.
- Not-for-Profit Member ($75) Members who are engaged substantially full-time in teaching law at an accredited law school, or who practice in the Federal Courts as a government employee or who practice law for a not-for-profit entity; provides all privileges of membership, above.
- Retiree Member ($50) Members who no longer practice law; provides all privileges of membership, above.
- Federal Judicial Law Clerk (No charge) Membership, with all its privileges, is free during the clerkship term (for a maximum of two years).
